Legal Basis & Social Integration Requirement

Who Needs This Exam and Why?

Under Hungarian immigration law, third-country nationals applying for a National Residence Card (Nemzeti letelepedési engedély) or an EU Residence Card (EU letelepedési engedély) must demonstrate comprehensive social integration into Hungarian society by passing the Cultural Knowledge Exam.

The exam is organized exclusively by the Budapest Capital City Government Office (Budapest Főváros Kormányhivatala) and is held at 1138 Budapest, Váci út 174. Because the exam is administered completely in Hungarian, language comprehension and cultural knowledge must be acquired simultaneously. Read Magyar directly bridges this gap.
